How to block spam calls — Samsung Galaxy

Blocking unknown callers also silences real callers not in your contacts, like a doctor's office or school. Check your voicemail regularly.
  1. Check for a software update

Go to Settings, then Software update, then Download and install. If one is available, install it first.

  2. Block one number

Open Phone, then Recents, tap the number, then Details, then Block. Or open Phone, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Block numbers, and add numbers there.

  3. Flag suspected spam

Open Phone, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Caller ID and spam protection, and turn it on. Suspected spam calls get flagged on screen so you can ignore them.

  4. Let Bixby screen the call for you

Open Phone, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Bixby Text Call, and turn it on. When a call comes in, Bixby answers, asks who is calling, and shows you what they say on screen. You can type a reply for Bixby to speak, pick up, or end the call. This is only on newer Galaxy phones. If you don't see Bixby Text Call, your phone doesn't have it, so use Caller ID and spam protection and blocking instead.

  5. Block all unknown numbers (strongest, use with care)

Open Phone, then Settings, then Block numbers, and turn on "Block unknown/private numbers." This blocks every caller not in your contacts, including real ones, so check voicemail often.

  6. Let your carrier help

Call your carrier and ask about free spam blocking.

  7. Know the limit

Spammers fake real-looking numbers, so blocking one number won't stop them all. Blocking unknown numbers is the strongest single switch.
