Phone will not charge — Samsung Galaxy

Safety firstStop charging if the Galaxy swells, smells like chemicals, hisses, smokes, or becomes too hot to touch.
Change one part at a time so you can tell whether the USB-C cable, power adapter, outlet, or Galaxy is the cause.
  1. Check for a software update

If the phone can turn on and has enough battery to finish an update, check for one first. If it cannot stay on, continue to the next step. Open Settings > Software update > Download and install. Follow the on-screen steps if one is available.

  2. Try the outlet and charging parts

Test another wall outlet. Then test a USB-C cable and Samsung-compatible power adapter that charge another device.

  3. Inspect and clear the USB-C opening

Hold the Side button and Volume Down, then tap Power off. Use a bright light to look for lint. If you see dry debris, use short, gentle bursts of compressed air from a can to blow it out. Keep the can upright, and do not put the straw, metal, liquid, or a sharp tool inside the opening.

  4. If the Galaxy is hot, let it reach room temperature

Unplug it, remove the case, and let it sit indoors. Do not use a refrigerator or freezer.

  5. Restart and reconnect

Hold the Side button until the Samsung logo appears. After it starts, connect the charger directly to the Galaxy.

  6. Run Samsung’s cable-charging test

Open Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics > Cable charging, then follow the on-screen test.
