Google Pixel • Slow or full • 10–30 minutes

Phone storage is full — Google Pixel

Safety firstDo not erase the Pixel until you have checked its backup and know the Google Account password.
Start by finding what is actually filling the Pixel. Then work on the largest category using items you can safely download again.
  1. Check for an Android update

Open Settings > System > Software updates > System update, then tap Check for update. Follow the on-screen steps if one is available.

  2. Find the largest storage category

Open Settings > Storage. Look at Apps, Images, Videos, Audio, and Documents & other, and notice which category uses the most space. This tells you what is making the phone full. If Images or Videos is largest, use the separate “Free up space from photos” guide before continuing here.

  3. Use cleanup suggestions for the category you found

Open Files by Google > Menu > Clean. Look for suggestions that match the large category from step 1, such as old downloads or large files. Review every item and select only files you recognize before tapping Move to Trash.

  4. Remove an unused app

If Apps was the largest category, open Settings > Apps > See all apps. Tap a large app you recognize but rarely use, then tap Uninstall > OK.

  5. Remove offline downloads

If videos, music, podcasts, or maps were using space, open the app that downloaded them. Open its Downloads section and remove only items you no longer need.

  6. Restart and confirm that space increased

Hold Power and Volume Up > Restart. Then return to Settings > Storage and compare the available space with what you saw in step 1.
