Speaker or microphone is not working — Google Pixel

Safety firstIf every recording sounds bad after restart, or trouble began after a drop or water, the Pixel may need repair.
Notice whether the trouble happens on calls, speakerphone, Recorder, videos, or every sound.
  1. Check for an Android update

Open Settings > System > Software updates > System update, then tap Check for update. Follow the on-screen steps if one is available.

  2. Disconnect Bluetooth audio

Open Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Bluetooth and turn off Use Bluetooth for this test.

  3. Set media volume

Play a video and press Volume Up. Tap the three dots on the volume panel and raise Media volume.

  4. Check the openings

Remove the case. Use only a clean, dry, soft brush on the speaker and microphone openings.

  5. Test the microphone

Open Recorder, record your voice, then play it. Next open Camera, record a short video with sound, and play it.

  6. Allow microphone access

Open Settings > Privacy > Permission manager > Microphone > the problem app, then choose Allow only while using the app.
