Remove problem cleaner apps or launchers — Apple iPhone

Safety firstDo not remove a work, school, medical, or family-safety profile unless the organization or person who installed it says it is safe.
iPhone does not use replacement Home screen launchers or a safe mode. An unwanted browser tab, cleaner, security, VPN, or calendar app can still show alerts, ads, or unwanted subscriptions.
  1. Check for an iOS update

Open Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Update Now and follow the on-screen steps.

  2. Close every browser tab first

Why: Safari or Chrome can hold dozens or even 99+ tabs without making that obvious, and a pop-up can keep returning from one old tab. Save or bookmark any page you need before closing everything.

Safari: Open Safari and tap the Tabs button (two overlapping squares), then tap All Tabs if it appears. Touch and hold Done, tap Close All Tabs, then confirm.

Chrome: Open Chrome and tap Switch tabs (the square with a number). If Inactive tabs appears at the top, open it, tap Close all inactive, then confirm Close all. Return to the regular tab grid, tap Edit > Close All Tabs.

  3. Delete the unwanted app

Touch and hold the app on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, tap Delete App, then tap Delete.

  4. Check for a subscription

Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Tap the cleaner or security app, then tap Cancel Subscription if you no longer want the paid plan. Deleting the app alone does not cancel billing.

  5. Remove an unknown VPN or profile

Open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Tap an unknown profile, tap Remove Profile, enter the passcode, then tap Remove. Under VPN, tap the information button beside an unwanted VPN and tap Delete VPN.

  6. Clear unwanted calendar spam

Open Calendar > Calendars. Tap the information button beside a calendar you do not recognize, then tap Unsubscribe.

  7. Restart the iPhone

Open Settings > General > Shut Down. Drag the slider, wait 30 seconds, then hold the Side button.
