Phone is getting too hot — Apple iPhone
Safety firstIf the iPhone stays very hot while idle, swells, smells strange, hisses, or smokes, stop using it and get help.
Games, maps, video calls, updates, and fast charging can make an iPhone warm. Too hot to hold, swelling, or a chemical smell is not normal.
Check for an iOS update
If the phone is hot or shows a temperature warning, unplug it and let it cool to room temperature before starting the update. Open Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Update Now and follow the on-screen steps.
Stop the heavy task
Unplug the iPhone. Swipe up from the bottom and pause, then swipe the game, Maps, or video app up to close it.
Move it and remove the case
Take it out of direct sun, remove the case, and set it on a hard surface at room temperature.
Let it cool slowly
Do not use ice, a refrigerator, or a freezer. Wait until the temperature warning disappears.
Restart after it cools
Open Settings > General > Shut Down. Drag the slider, wait 30 seconds, then hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
